What is Foundation Fieldbus?

Foundation Fieldbus is a digital industrial fieldbus standard used for communication between field devices (such as Sensors and Actuators) and control systems in process automation.

It was developed as a successor to analogue signalling (e.g. 4–20 mA) and enables bidirectional, digital communication over a single cable.
