What is a Stepper Motor?

A Stepper Motor is an electric motor that performs rotational movement in discrete steps, rather than continuously as with a standard motor.

Stepper motors are widely used in applications that require precise position control, such as 3D printers, CNC machines, labelling systems, and dosing units.

They can be controlled exactly without feedback sensors (open loop).


🔁 How does a stepper motor work?

A stepper consists of a fixed coil (stator) and a toothed rotor. By energising the coils in a particular sequence, the rotor rotates in steps. Each command results in a fixed rotation angle, e.g. 1.8° per step.
